The Gate

A vegetarian restaurant near Angel

FSA food hygiene rating (2013-05-17): ★★☆☆☆ (improvement necessary)

  • Great for dates
  • Nice atmosphere, good food
  • Kitchen can be slow
  • Slightly more expensive

You know how sometimes you walk into an eatery, and think “Ah! Now, this is a restaurant!”? The Gate is like that. Some places merely are; other places are designed. The Gate is in the latter camp. Think low light levels, bare lightbulbs, big mirrors, and wood everywhere.

It took a little time for our food to arrive, but it was worth the wait. I had a courgette flower tempura and a Thai curry. The tempura was particularly good. My friend had aubergine teriyaki. We finished our meal by splitting a banoffee pie. My mouth is watering just thinking about it now.

A 3 course meal for 2, with nonalcoholic drinks, was around £60.

About Nopudding London

Nopudding London was built entirely by Alex Pounds. It's designed as a more geography-centric guide of places to eat. Most veggie listings start with a table of text, but I'm normally trying to answer the question "Where can I get a good meal near _____?". Textual listings aren't very good at that.

I am available for hire, and you should follow me on Twitter.

Why only London?

I'm only adding places I've visited, as I'm more interested in making personal recommendations than being comprehensive. There are some other places elsewhere in the world, too, if you go looking for them...
